Author's Note: This is my account of what
happened those days after Graveheart got his citzenship back. Probably
no one will believe me, but ask any Rock inhabitant and you will.
'Alright men. MOVE OUT!!'
'YES SIR!!'
'Citrine, you just stay where you are!!'
'But....'
'Understand!?'
'...yes sir....'
Citrine plopped down and fumed. What a male chavinest pig!! If he wasn't her superior, she would've....Erk. What was wrong with a girl joining the Quarriors? Heck, until some time ago the Captain of the Guard was a woman. But nooooo, Sergeant Whats-his-face made her clean the stupid toilet. 'If I ever got a chance, I bet I would be just as good as Jade. Aw, who am I kidding?! The only chance I'll ever get to actually pick up one of those sonic cannons is when Ice burns over, or when Femur actually stops being a pervert!.....he he..'
'Ahhhhhh!!!! Attack!!!!!!!'
Citrine sprang up and ran outside. 'Beast drones!? What the...' Spitting out a few un-ladylike terms in the process, Citrine ran for one of the cannons. Unfortunatly, so did Sergeant Granite.
'CITRINE!! I told you to stay over there!!! Now move it!!'
'But sir!...'
'MOVE IT!!' In saying so, Sergeant Granite hit her, HARD, with his free hand. Citrine reeled from the force of it, and when she took her hand away, she saw a trickle of blood.
'Why don't we go to 'Moon over Mayhem'?'
'AGAIN?!....
'Jade!!Uh, I mean your Majesty...'
'Never mind that! Spit it out!!'
'Beast drones attacking. They're attacking the main armory hold!!'
All the color drained from Tekla's face. 'Do you mean to say that they're back? That they weren't destoyed by the teleporting?'
Jade cut in. 'Are you sure that they're attacking the main armoury hold?'
'Yes sir! Uh, ma'am, uh...'
Jade turned around. 'Graveheart, there's enough explosives in there to blow up half of Rock!!'
'Oh shoot.....'
'Sir! We've lost over half our men! And the Beast drones have almost triplede in number!!'
Sergeant Granite looked around, and his eyes fell on Citrine.'C'mon, get your butt out here and give us a hand!!!' An enormous smile grew on her face. 'Yes sir!!'
Citrine was more enthuisatic them most of the other, seasoned warriors were. Most of her hits were more luck that skill, but the commotion she caused in the ranks of the Beast drones was monumental.
Then diaster struck. A lone missile from the Beast sailed over their heads and landed on Rock's deadliest weapon, the Armageddon. In the silence that followed, everyone could hear the Sergeant's moan. Then the world seemed to expand, then it crashed down on everything like a tidal wave.
"Oowwwww....." Citrine opened her eyes and winced as a shaft of light sliced across her vision. "Geez.....first time I actually get to help out and the stupid Beast has to shoot the Armageddon...ouch..my stupid head...I'm gonna have one heck of a rock there....ooch.." She twisted her head around and saw that all the rubble and assorted junk had pinned her down, but hadn't crushed her suit.
"Well, whaddya know," Citrine marveled. "That hunk of junk can actually do something other than make me fall over and give me a concussion!" She wriggled out of the clunky armor and somehow scrabbled her way to the surface. "Oh wow...." Everything was gone. All her friends, all the troops, and, thank goodness, even cranky old Granite. The Hold was still here, but much more lopsided that she remembered it. The only thing that was still standing were the Beast drones.....and Lamprey.
********
KA-BOOM!!!! Even so far away, everyone in the palace felt the effect of the explosion.
"Wow!" exclaimed Pyrus. "What kind of stuff do you have in there, Jade?"
"Stuff that would kill anyone within a five mile radius," Jade said grimly. She turned to Graveheart. 'Should we send out a patrol to pick out the surviours?"
"I don't know." he mused. "If that Quarrior was right, sending a patrol could just be what they expect. And if that is the case, we'd just lose more lives."
But then Zera said out loud what they were all thinking. "But if there are surviours? What if they need serious help?"
*********
Citrine hunched down in her hole. Lamprey was yelling something, loud and clear, and most of it wasn't fit for decent ears. But.....her ears perked up.
"Aund wye did you not find the data crystal?!" she shrieked. "We must find this..'Citrine' and get rid of her while we still can!!" Lamprey said the name like it was a curse.
"Um, ok, this is DEFINATELY pushing a 25 on my How-weird-can-it-get-but-it-must-get-weirder scale. What the heck does Lamprey want with me!? I'm just a regular, run-of-the-mill soldier!" Citrine looked around. "Well whatever. But I've got to get out of here!!" She looked around some more. "Oh geez. There's a sonic cannon. And how convieniant! Only on the other side this planet!!"
A Beast drone lumbered by, and Citrine ducked down into her little shelter, and didn't even dare to breathe. After what seemed like hours, the drone passed by.
Citrine let out a audible 'whew'. At that moment, Lamprey was still ranting about something, with her back to Citrine, so she took the chance and went for it. "Oh yes!! Oh nooooooo..." Citrine had made it alright, but had accidentally fired off one blast at Lamprey missing her by one inch. Some Beast drones weren't as lucky.
"Oh crud. There goes the old ball game!!" Without thinking, Citrine grabbed the gun and started firing with absolutly no aim. With more luck than skill she managed to wipe out half the drones before Lamprey had time to react.
"Yee-ha!! Oh this is SO much fun..." When the drones started to return fire, Citrine decided that this would be a good time to run for her life. "Always the klutz. Oh well.." She reached the Hold's hangar, and shut the automatic door.
As the Drones started to advance, Lamprey held up her hand. "Enough! We have what we came for..."
*******
"Oh boy, I hope this wreck has auto pilot..." Citrine hopped into one of the shuttles and, without thinking fired up the shuttle and lifted off.
"Argh!!! What the heck am I doing!? I don't know how to fly one of these things!!!!" finding the autopilot button, she slammed her hand down on it and relaxed. "Set co-ordinates for the palace," she tole the computer.
"Acknowledged."
As she sat back her head started to ache. Badly. "Oh....my head...." The world seemed to twist and swirl in front of her eyes, and....some long-forgotten memories slipped in here and there, but....she didn't know these people. She seemed to sink, lower and lower, into the black void that was her mind. That is why, when the Quarriors opened her shuttle, they found Citrine half dead.
Citrine fought againest a weird sense tugging at her mind and forced her eyes open for the second time in the same day. "Argh!! Ack! Ahhhhh!!!! Where the flamin' heck am I?!"
"Relax. You're in the sickbay in the palace," soothed King Cryos.
"Heck, I can see that. Ooh, I hate these places....."she moaned. Something broke through the fog in her mind and she bolted up. "Palace?! Um, I think I need to speak with Her Majesty....."
"Not until you tell us why you were found half-dead in a shuttle, and where you came from," interrupted Graveheart.
"Uh, I think you'll really, really, REALLY wanna hear this..."
"Talk later. Now, tell us where you came from!" demanded Pyrus.
"Oh geez this is the thanks I get for trying to.."
"TALK!!" all three of them chorused.
"Sheesh, ya don't have to get all pushy, I am, no, WAS from the Hold . I work there. In a sense," she muttered.
"Were you there when the explosion went off?" inquired Cryos.
"YES!! That's what I have to tell you boneheads!!"
All three glared at her.
"Um....I mean....you....nice people?" Citrine grinned weakly.
"Just tell us...." sighed Graveheart, exasperated.
"Ok. Here goes......." And from there the whole story spilled out. When she got to the part about Lamprey, Jade walked in and turned just as white as the other three. The only thing she didn't say was that Lamprey had mentioned her name. That was some info she kept to herself.
"So, Lamprey is still alive. That makes this news worse. First the Beast is back, now her." said Cryos.
"Um......." Citrine paused, thinking weather or not she should tell them about Lamprey knowing her.
"Yes?" Jade asked.
Citrine set her jaw. "Nothing."
It was obvious to everyone that she was hiding something, but no one pushed her.
"Now, why were you half dead?" asked Pyrus.
Citrine's face grew hard. "Search me!"
Jade looked at the teen closely. Citrine's eyes were veiled, and gave no clue to what she was thinking. Her face gave no indication as well. Jade couldn't explain it, but she instinctively trusted this girl. "Leave her alone. She just woke up."
Citrine looked pathetically grateful. Inside she thanked the ruler of Rock, and then her spirits fell. she had no place to stay! Since the Hold was destroyed, so was the home she had always known. Swallowing her pride, she opened her mouth to ask for a place to stay. Jade saved her the misery and askeed her if she needed a place to stay.
As Jade led her away, Gravheart and the others held a council of war. "Well gang, looks like we're playing the game again."
"Snnnnuuuurrrrkkkkk......wheezz......snnnnnuuuurrrkkkk....wheezz.." Citrine rolled around in her bed and stared at the ceiling. How on Rock was she supposed to get to sleep with Femur's room right next to hers? This was probably why no one wanted this room....
As she was staring up into the ceiling, the colors began to swirl and fog, and her head began to ache. Again.
"Oh shoot......not....again...." And once again she saw people walk up in her mind, people she didn't know, but people she felt that she did know, a long time ago. The pain grew in intensity, and Citrine started to scream.
The door flew open and Jade walked in holding a brite-stic, looking like she wasn't awake yet.
"yawn.....Whut's wrong?"
"Errr...heh heh heh...nothing..."
"Come on, you didn't drag me out of my bed for nothing. Spit it out!"
"Uh....Bad dream?"
Before Jade could come up with some sarcastic comment on that, Pyrus wandered by, yawning.
"Mmpppfff.....What's goin' on.....?"
"Nothing!" chorused the two.
"Ok.....wake me up in the morning....." With that, Pyrus walked to his room.
Jade turned back to Citrine. "Ok ok. I was just, uh....having some..flashbacks?" Jade continued to glare at Citrine. "Ok ok." Citrine adverted her eyes. "I clonked my head in the explotions and now I'm having weird memories of people I don't even know. Happy?" Citrine looked up again, expecting to see Jade glaring harder.
"What? You're kidding right!?"
Citrine winced. "Um, no, I wish I was." Jade gave Citrine a 'look', and said, "We'll see to this in the morning."
Shortly after that, Citrine fell asleep.
In the morning Citrine was again in the sickbay, after explaining her head condition, again, and being freaked out by the medic, again.
Malachite, Rock's best medic, told the Alliance group what she had discovered.
"It isn't good," the doctor told them. "Somehow, the knock on her head is opening up parts of her mind that seem to have been blocked a long time ago."
"Blocked?" asked Tekla. "As if someone has placed a wall in her mind to stop her from knowing something?"
"Yes. And that's very irregular. And usually, I can 'open' that mindblock, but when I tried to do that to Citrine, her vital signs dropped. So I can't risk that again."
"So what do we do, exactly?"
Malachite shook her head. "I can honestly say that I don't know. We can just wait and see if her mind can open the block by it self. That's all."
Graveheart scratched his head. "Well, should we tell her?"
"Well what's the big deal?" asked Pyrus. "Why don't we just ship her back to the Hold?"
Graveheart scratched his head again. "I don't really know," he admitted. "It's just a gut feeling that this kid could really help out."
Jade added, "I know we can trust her. I can't explain it, but we can."
******
After being 'released', Citrine walked down the hall to the Records Center. Deep in thought, she smashed into a Quarrior who failed to notice her. "Ooooof!!"
"Why don't you watch where you're going, rockhead?" she snarled.
"Oh, I'm soooo sorry for.....Citrine?"
"Jasper? How on Rock do you manage to follow me everywhere?! How did you get here......No, wait, let me guess. You got promoted, right? Uhhhhhhhh!!!!!! I don't BELIEVE that you're here!!! Well, just STAY OUT OF MY WAY!! It's OVER, ok?"
Citrine pushed him aside and marched down the hall.
Pyrus and Zera caught up with her. "Ouch. What is he, your enemy?"
"He was, and still is."
After a extensive search of the Records Center, they wound up with Citrine's personal records, with all the information about her family inside.
"Why do you need this, anyway?" asked Zera.
"Believe it or not, I don't know anything about them. Heck, I don't even know how old I am!"
"They all sat down and started to leaf thourgh her history.
"Hey, my mom's name was....Rhodendrite? I think she was govenor a long time ago......Ack! My father is Granite?! Oh boy, I sure hope it wasn't the same Granite as the Sergeant!! I wonder if I have any siblings....."
Citrine turned chalk white.
"What's wrong? Have you just seen a ghost?"
Citrine answered so quietly and so softly that they had to strain their ears to hear her. "I'm Jade's sister."
